as some might know, I’m having Psychiatry for the whole week. We’ve started on Monday. This semester, it’s our first time having this cycle, so we are doing basic stuff about psychiatry. Next week, it’ll be Medical Psychology.

So, the first question thrown to us was – what is Psychiatry? What do u think?

Psychiatry is a branch of medicine which studies the clinical features, etiology, epidemiology, treatment and prognosis of mental disorders. it also studies the organization of psychiatry service.

Psych – in Greek is soul or mind, iatros – is health in Greek. So, it’s health of the mind?

next, we were asked about the difference of psychiatry and psychology?? what is the first thing that will cross your mind? well, psychology studies the NORMAL mental function like memory, emotion, etc…but psychiatry studies the diseases. Yup…that is the line drawn between both!

then, there was the difference between Neurosis and Psychosis – heard before? hehe,…neurosis can happen to normal people which means it’s the condition when the person has mild mental disease and he is aware of the illness and seeks for treatment. but in patient with psychosis, there is profound mental disorder that patient is not aware of the mental illness. I think, one of the reason for neurosis is excessive stress – making someone too tired, exhausted and lead to mild mental illness.

for the past 3 days, including today, i’ve learnt so much about hallucinations, delusions and the whole list of types of delusions! amazing!!! about obssesions, impulse control disorder, disorder of memory, will and emotion.
Wow……..sometimes, i feel i might have very very mild of some of those symptoms or even syndromes! haha….

no pictures yet from me but u can view some from Psychiatry.

rejoice!!

shall update more tonight!!!

nevertheless, it was a great night!
i believe everyone experienced a new level of worship with God and break throughs were made! Praise the Lord!

saw this post in ZhungYi’s page, and i was wondering if i should take and see if i’m really suitable to be a doctor – guess what…..

You Should Be a Doctor

You are practical, sharp, and very intuitive.
Optimistic and energetic, you are a problem solver who doesn’t get discouraged easily.
You are also quite compassionate and caring. You make people feel hopeful.
You’re highly adaptable and capable. You do well with almost any curve ball life throws at you.

You do best when you:

- Are always learning new subjects
- Use your knowledge to solve problems

You would also be a good therapist or detective.

honestly, this is the most accurate ‘test’ i’ve ever done! kekeke….at first, there was a few pictures that i wanted to choose but this stood up the most, so there i have it! Now that i’ve chosen to take this road, medicine, i shoud really do my best. Lately, i’ve given much thought of where i should work and what i should specialize in. And i think i would love to do Internal Medicine or to be a Physicians. As for where to work, i’m praying that God will have me work near a church that He calls me to and where my family is! It’s just another year to go before i graduate and things seems to be moving fast….
Some of my really good friends are graduating soon and I dont know if I will ever meet them again, ever, in this life time…in heaven for sure. Some of them dream to go to UK or US, some are just not from where i was, and i wonder if there are any chances they would invite me to their wedding or their kids baptism. i’m going to miss all of them very much!

ever thought of getting a new home? well, if i were to plan to buy a new house, i would definately need to consider the aspect of finances. Buying one is simple but furnishing it, making it a comfort for your family, now that takes more effort and finances.

Secured Home Loans now provides loans for all of you that are planing to buy your own comfort. The loans offers from 3 – 30 years and offers loan for any value between £5,000 & £250,000.

This is a new site, which I personally find that it’s friendly and easy to access.
The loans can be for any purpose, from furnishing your new house to getting a break in Maldives or wedding loans to a romantic honeymoon.

it is predicted by the locals (russian ppl) that it might be a cold week, probably snow. oh well, i cant say I’m not looking forward to seeing snow but maybe it’s a bit too early?
weather for the past week was up and down, very cold in the morning and slight increase of temperature in noon and by evening, it’s cool again. around 5-10 degrees in the day…and at night, might drop til 1 or 2 degree, i suppose.
snow might be the second best thing after autumn. notice that this year, i’ve put up several autmn pictures but i believe during winter, it’ll be as nice.
the snow, it’s even more beautiful…so white, so pure. the snow reflects the light and makes ur face glow with beauty!
russian winter- very cold!! i dont think anyone can ever imagine that unless they’ve been to russia or the cooler part of China. imagine -17 degree or cooler, everything starts to freeze!!! begining from your ears – and u’ll get botak if you dont wear a cap!! hehe…
hehe….it’s nice because the snow is thick, soft, and just amazing!
i found this picture – hehe…taken about 2 years back…last March or April. Yes, it is stil snowing then. Where I am now, it snows 6 months a year! fun, eh?!
last winter, meaning end of 2006-begining 2007, there wasnt much snow at all, maybe jsut one week – becoz of global warming! so, we had a warm winter (-10 degree celcious) – nevertheless, the cold winter lasted til march and april.
it’s all snow everywyhere – thick snow….white and white everywhere…pure and clean and a beauty!

snow fight! haha….just as we were waiting to go somewhere..maybe church makan, but end-up having snow fights!

** just want to praise God for the beautiful seasons that He has created. There are no words to describe the beauty of His creation!

wow….tonight, for church, we had Praise and Worship night!! (pictures coming up soon!)

the theme was ExtraOrdinary…sound familiar? hehe….maybe not to all but certainly to those that know me ‘well’ enough…ehe….and know how much i love CHC worship album- Cross.

well, i just thought maybe the theme was a coincidence…but guess what, we sang ExtraOrdinary during the praise and worship!

wow….superb!!! i dont know who to thank for helping our worship team to learn this song but it was definately a great blessing to me!!

i first heard this song LIVE when i visited City Harvest KL!!! yay! i got to see Ps. kevin in person…he was on stage though…and i was in the back row…ehe…anyway, that is not the main point! the main point was that it was a huge blessing!!!!!!! ok, my next mission is to meet with ps. kong or visit CHC Sg.

i cant wait to post up pictures. hehe..need to get them from my friend in another hostel!

i just came across something very interesting in CSI – this disease called Porphyria.

yes, you heard me right, it’s from CSI…not my medical school….well, there are things you can learn from tv-series. anway…i just want to blog something about this disease….

The porphyria are both inherited and acquired disorders in which the activities of the enzymes of the heme biosynthetic pathway are partially or almost totally deficient. Meaning, in this disease, there is lack of some kind of enzymes that makes heme (blood to carry oxygen).

It is mainly classified into hepatic and erythropoeitic type. And of course, lots of of sub-classifications.

What caught my attention was the symptoms of this disease…which lead me to do some readings on the net and books (ok..i do read medical books to double check…hehe..i dont get everything out from wikipedia! aha.) The symptoms are very non-specific mainly neurological (nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, diarrhea, constipation, ileus, dysuria, muscle hypotonia, respiratory failure, sensory neuropathy, seizures) and also photosensitivity.

History stretches til the time of Hippocrates who might be the first to describe it…not sure about it…

Anyway, that was not what really caught my attention….it was the idea of Vampires! Porphyria has been suggested as an explanation for the origin of vampire and werewolf legends. Additionally, it was believed that the patients’ missing heme could be absorbed through the stomach, correlating with the legends’ hematophagy (hema - blood, phagy – eating). very interesting indeed!!

next was the insanity exhibited by King George III. I have not look into it yet, but briefly read about it…and it was also mentioned in The Madness of King George, a play/film made in 1991/1994. Which was interesting because it was mentioned in CSI! -> a bit crazy of me to take into account everything said in the series??

Other commentators have suggested that Vincent van Gogh may have suffered from acute intermittent porphyria. Amazing too- because he is one of the first artist that i come to know about when i was very young! i stil can remember that drawing of his….anyway, i got to know about this famous artist through a movie…about a young boy that went back in time and met this amazing artist…ok, i did try looking for the drawing that i would remember him for…but i cant find it…it has a wheelbarrow in the middle of the drawing..erm……maybe next time!

but i found one of his popular drawing…

sunflower

**after several minutes of searching on the net **

wow…praise God! with the internet – anything is possible..but praise God because He lead me to find click to this page and i found the drawing! wow, i feel that the world is so much smaller with this thing called INTERNET! yay!!!

The Harvest

ok, next ->It has also been imagined that King Nebuchadnezzar of Babylon suffered from some form of porphyria (cf. Daniel 4) –> definately the chapter has nothing to do with it! shall ask my pastor about it.

Yup..that is all…so, my conclusionis that there are things to be learnt in every episodes of CSI…and like tonight, i’ve learnt something new – porphyria!

After the birthday makan in Italian Café, YuinYin persuaded us to go for a walk in the park nearby….well, since the weather is nice and fine, why not?!

Again, I love the autumn breeze…it’s cool and calm…things seems to slow down and moments freeze in time.
Don’t u sometimes feel that time passes so fast, that it just slipped from our fingers and we cant get hold of it….but I’ve found a way to capture moments….by taking lots of pictures!!
I remembered when I was at home 2 summer ago, I was crazy going around taking videos…simply because I want to freeze time. I want to be able to turn back and be able to look. And so fast, it’s already 1 year. And soon, 2007 will come to an end…how many moments did I captured this year?

introducing…the fellowship ministry of 06/07!

our leader : Sylvia Wong
Secretary : Sze-Lynn
members : Pere, Jo, Niny, Bernard, Ting, Esther, Ming, Lynnwei, Mervyn, Anushia, Ching Ching.

the fellowship ministry is in charge of projects for the church for example, the christmas musical, easter bake sale. and lots more!!
i believe that God has placed each one of us in this ministry that we may learn from one another and most of all from God. learning to serve God from all our heart, to trust Him and to love Him!
for me, being in a ministry has opened up blessings for me in ways more than one! yea, if u feel u’re lack of something, get started and join a ministry. When u begin to do the things for God, God will take care of your things!
all the sweet memories of the time spent together getting the things done and serving God, it’s going to stay with me til the end of time. =p
i remember we have to go to the Premed Hall, 2 times a week for practise for the Christmas Musical, it was there that God begin to connect each and everyone of us together!
Thank you, Lord, for blessing me with wonderful friends like them. God, may You bless them in all the things they set their hands to do, and every path they take, let it bring blessings to them and to the people around them! In Jesus name, Amen.
